Just the one film to update on....
The Killer Inside Me (3 Star):
This was always going to struggle to satisfy me as I went in with the cliched, pretentious, false-righteousness of someone who loves the book it is based on. As a result the film was pretty good, but nothing more. For me, the point of the book is to really get inside Lou Ford's head, feel his sickness and see the sympathetic, subtle and sensitive aspects to his condition, whilst always being sickened by the sinister nature of the story. Maybe its unfair to expect a 1 hour 45 min film to capture this with the deftness that can be attained through a book, but if you can't do it, should you be making a film adaptation at all? The acting was good and the music and decor was nice and authentic. The cinemtography was a little on the plain side (just showing what needed to be seen), but a reasonable film nonetheless.
