A Horse Named Morbid by Phil Thurlby - A Review (5 Star - of course!)

This the second in the Marshall Mysteries series -  a set of stories that blends modern dystopian satire with a less-than-modern style private detective mystery.

Marshall is a mess. Drug-addicted and haunted by his brother and the events of the civil war in the 2020s, he has little time and patience for those around him - particularly those who see themselves above him. But there are bills to pay and addictions to feed...

And so he finds himself in The Fen trying to find the perpetrator behind the killing of a horse. But what starts simply as the shooting of livestock quickly descends into a murky mire of clan skirmishes, territory marking and sexual manipulation...

Whilst this picks up where the last one left off, there is nothing to stop readers starting their journey with Marshall here. In fact I would advise it! Teardrops in an Ocean was the start of the story, but A Horse Named Morbid is where it really starts to follow its course. A little less bleak than the first, this work shows us just how much more there is to the tragic Marshall...

I hope you like it and, whether you do or not, please leave me some feedback.

Cheers

Phil
