The Judas Goat by Robert B. Parker - A Review (3 Star)

This was fairly good - as all Spenser mysteries seem to be, but it fell a little short of Parker's normal standard.

There was the usual blend of action, investigation and delectable dry wit, but it felt very contrived.

The locations in which this book is set (which I shall avoid naming) felt out of place and unnecessary as though Parker had been unable to come up with any real depth and originality and was attempting to "colour" the story with a multinational chase.

The other element that let this down was the progression of the plot. The mystery component, all thought for the most part was logical and thoroughly worked by the charismatic PI, there were a couple of key moments that felt crow-barred in and a little thoughtless. These were moments that made you think, if the antagonists had really wanted to get away with it, they easily could have by not doing two very stupid things...

But these two moments aside, the story chugs along with the level of entertainment we have come to expect from the series and like the rest it is fairly short and sweet.
